It’s incredibly hard to find the motivation to lose weight when you became famous as a larger character. Just ask Jorge Garcia. Thankfully, since his time as Hurley on Lost, Garcia found a clever way for both him and his character to lose weight! “I can afford to not live on rum and burritos and take better care of myself,” he told Maxim after shedding more than 30 pounds. “Besides, there were enough people who were waiting for my character to lose weight as a result of being stranded on a desert island.”

Since Lost, Garcia has only lost more and more weight. The actor’s most significant weight loss came in 2016 and 2017 when he dropped a whopping 100 lbs.! While daily exercise certainly helped, Garcia says the most significant change came from going 100% vegan!

Jonah Hill – 100 Lbs. Lost

When millennial favorite Jonah Hill first became famous, his weight played a large part in the roles he recieved. However, when Hill arrived at the premiere of Moneyball, he caught the world by storm with how much weight he had lost! After becoming a famous face, the funny man decided to “be a responsible adult” and went on a celebrity weight loss journey!

By the end of it, Hill managed to shed off an impressive 100 pounds! Along the way, he confirmed what many already know: there’s no magic bullet to weight loss. “I wish there was some crazy thing that I did, like a pill or a genie or something,” Hill said in a recent interview. “But I went to see a nutritionist, and he told me what to eat to change my habits and stuff.”

Chaz Bono – 95 Lbs. Lost

Before appearing on Dancing with the Stars, actor and activist Chaz Bono, the son of Sonny Bono and Cher, was always known for being a tad overweight. However, his appearance on the dancing competition started a weight loss fire inside Bono that burns to this day. Thanks to regular diet and exercising, he’s down just over 95 pounds as of this writing and is still losing regularly!

“I’d love to do Dancing all over again,” Bono said to ABC News recently, commenting on his weight loss. “I’d do it so much better now than I did then!” Of course, while looking great is one thing, the best side effect of weight loss is the feeling. “I really feel very satisfied and comfortable with the way I eat now, which is amazing, and for me, kind of a miracle,” he said.

While some reality stars document their celebrity weight loss journeys, few make a whole show about it. However, Mama June, mother of Honey Boo Boo and star of Toddlers & Tiaras and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, did. When she weighed in at over 450 pounds, Mama June knew she needed to make a change. Determined to lose the weight once and for all, she not only started living healthier, but also let camera crews document it all, keeping her accountable.

The reality show Mama June: From Not to Hot premiered on TLC in February, 2016. By the end of the first season, June had already lost 100 pounds! Today, she’s shed nearly three times that! When actress Caitlin Van Zandt landed on a leading role on the hit soap opera Guiding Lights -still America’s longest-running despite ending in 2009- that seemed like the cherry top. However, she then scored her most famous role: the daughter of Johnny and Ginny Sack, Allegra, on The Sopranos.

Still, Van Zandt had no idea that an even more intense battle awaited her, a struggle with weight loss. After years of trying diets that did her no good, the actress opted for lap-band surgery. Now, she’s down from a size 20 to a size 8. Not only that, but eating healthy worked better after the surgery for Van Zandt, who now loves almonds. “I actually buy skinny jeans [now],” she told People. “It’s unbelievable.”

Marissa Jaret Winokur – 50 Lbs. Lost

When the coronavirus pandemic started, actress Marissa Jaret Winokur’s doctor had some awful news: due to her weight, she found herself at high risk of the disease. According to the 47-year-old star, this was the final straw. Now, she’s started turning everything around. After suffering from asthma as a child and cervical cancer as an adult, Winokur never wants to go back to the hospital.

So, in 2020, Winokur decided to turn it all around. It’s still in the early stages, but the actress has already lost 50 pounds! “I started walking and eating healthy — and just trying to take control,” Winokur recently explained.

Rosie O’Donnell – 60 Lbs. Lost

After actress and comedian Rosie O’Donnell suffered a heart attack in 2012, her doctors bluntly told her that she would not survive another. Determined to stay around for loved ones and fans, O’Donnell then took some drastic steps. First, she decided to go under the knife, having gastric sleeve surgery. “My father’s side is totally not healthy, and they have shorter life spans,” Presley, 46, told People Magazine. “So I said, ‘OK, I’m going to play it safe and try to be as healthy as I can be.’” After Lisa Marie realized she had gained some weight, she quickly opted for a vegan lifestyle and began working out daily. These days, Lisa Marie says she’s feeling better than she did in her 20s!

Her best advice? “Out of sight, out of mind.” If there’s food that tempts her, she simply throws it away.

Reality star Holly Hagan, who became famous on the British version of Jersey ShoreGeordie Shore, won her fair share of fans for flaunting her curvy body on the show. As she said many times on Geordie Shore, Hagan didn’t care how much she weighed, as long as she was happy and looking great. Adele also made it clear to the Daily Mail that losing weight was for her and her son, no one else. “I have never been insecure, ever, about how I look, about what I want to do with myself,” she told the paper. This is also likely why Adele’s never revealed how much she’s lost.

When legendary singer Celine Dion appeared in the capital city of France for Paris Fashion Week back in 2019, many tabloids reported on how it seemed as though perhaps Dion had lost too much weight. Thankfully, within a few days, Dion spoke to ABC News, clearing everything up: “It’s true that I’m a little thinner. Everything’s fine, nothing’s wrong.”

While Dion confirmed she had lost some weight, she didn’t specify how much she’s lost. Fortunately, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer did let everyone know how she lost the pounds: dancing! Specifically, ballet. “I do this four times a week,” Dion said. “People say, ‘She’s a lot thinner,’ but I’m working hard. I like to move, and (weight loss) comes with it.”

Queen Latifah made it big back in the late ’80s, thanks to her debut hip-hop album at the young age of 19. Over the following decades, she would crossover into television and film as well. Then, in 2008, she made another transition, becoming a spokesperson for the weight-loss company Jenny Craig. The next year, the company released a statement announcing Queen Latifah had drop 20 lbs following their plan!

Like many celebrities on this list, Queen Latifah also combined her diet with plenty of exercise. She said she hits the gym five to seven times a week, using the treadmill or elliptical for at least an hour. Now, the fit Queen Latifah is working on a brand-new hip-hop album!

Comedian Tiffany Haddish has kept bust almost her entire life. From her work as a standup comedian and roles on shows like The Carmichael Show to her musical work with the likes of Cardi B, she’s done it all. But it didn’t exactly leave a lot of time for taking care of herself.

Holliday also has another interesting claim to fame: she became one of the first celebrities known to have undergone gastric bypass surgery to lose weight.
